Dining As I mentioned earlier, we had the opportunity to eat 24 hours a day!
Fortunately, we resisted that urge, but still managed to eat very well!
Every day, we had breakfast in the Horizon Court, the 24 hour buffet restuarant.
My normal breakfast was a bowl of fresh mixed fruit and possibly an extra
slice of pineapple, possibly a small pastry, and bacon with a possible
link or two of sausage. A glass of orange juice topped it off.
For lunch we sometimes ate at the Horizon again, but often picked up
a pizza and once a hamburger. We also picked up lunch a couple of
times at the specialized daily buffet.
Dinner was the real treat. The menu always included several appitizers, soups, salads, and main courses. There were also several selections which were always offered. The menus were never repeated during the cruise. Every night there was a cold fruit soup offered. Several I had included apple, peach, and pear. They were almost like a smoothie without the ice. They were delicious! I usually also had a fruit plate appetizer. The main courses I had included among many others, New York cut steak, Beef Medalions, Monk fish and a huge lobster tail, King Crab Legs, Lobster tails and giant prawns, and a fantastic, huge prime rib. After finishing the lobster tail and prawn dinner, our waitress asked if we would like another lobster tail - we said yes. She brought two more complete dinners! Then came the desert menu. This always included some very fancy
deserts. I frequently had sorbet, with my very favorite being the
dark cherry sorbet. Other deserts included various mousses, "Love
Boat" signature dessert (heart shaped cake covered in chocolate), strawberry
shortcake, and other fancy cakes and souffles.
I should say a little about Laila. Our first night in the Santa Fe Dining Room we had a waitress named Laila from Portugal. She was excellent. Not only did she do her serving job quickly and well, but if we ordered something she did not think was up to the standards of the other items, she would tell us and suggest an alternative. She was always right! Several times Rosemarie tried to be good and order the sugar free desert. On a couple of these occasions, Laila would wrinkle her nose and emphatically say "No, that is not good. Why don't you try xxxx". We ate in the other two dinning rooms a couple of times, but mostly in the Santa Fe, always getting a table in Laila's area. Towards the end of the cruise, we attended a culinary demonstration
followed by a tour of the galley. I'll put this under Dining as it
was entertainment dealing with food.
