After our final sea day for a while, we arrived in the harbor at
Fuerte Amador where we anchored. There is no suitable dock here
for the Coral Princess, so we will be using tenders to go ashore.
The excursion we have scheduled here is an aerial tramway ride over a
section of rain forest. We are really looking forward to this
one! The tickets for this outing state the we need "Closed toe
shoes and raingear". Raingear? Oh Oh! We went to one
of the onboard shops several days ago and bought two vinyl rain coats
and hats for $10 each. Now we are prepared!
One of the tenders is being lowered to the water to take us ashore. There were 4 tenders used.
Aboard the tender it doesn't seem quite as
crowded as it really was. There were about 150 people aboard,
including many on the top deck.
The bus ride tooik us through many of the streets of Panama City.
The driver pointed out these animals in a
side yard of an apartment complex. I believe he called them
neque. They are closely related to the anteater.
After quite a long bus ride, the driver
stopped at this resort for a break. This hutch was in the lobby
and was very intricate and huge!
Looking out the back from the lobby you could see this complex of pools with the Panama Canal in the background.
The site for the tramway ride includes several other attractions. We started touring an Orchid farm.
Many of the over 100 varieties of orchids they grow are off season now, but the ones that were in bloom were very pretty.
This is another gorgeous orchid in bloom.
Next we went through a cave like structure with side windows containing snakes and other small reptiles.
This snake would be almost impossible to spot in the wild, as its green color matches the lush vegitation.
This was our closest view of an Iguana.
The butterfly house was next on our tour as we approached the tram. There were many very pretty examples.
One of the most beautiful butterflies we saw
had brilliant blue wings. I tried over and over to get a picture,
but it was impossible to catch one in flight, and when ever they
landed, they folded their wings together, hiding the blue side.
Our next stop was a locked reptile house. There were a couple of crocodiles, some fish, and these turtles.
This is the larger of the two crocodiles on display. He is about 4 feet long.
