House Status as of March 25, 2003

Hi friends and relatives,

It has finally happened - we are in our house (sort of), preparing to end 10 1/2 months of living in our motorhome..

The movers arrived at 8 AM and started unloading our 21,400 pounds of stuff.  Betty was stationed in the living room to direct where things go in the house, and I handled the outside and directed the garage and shop items.

A couple of hours into the unloading process, a large white truck pulled right in front of the movers.  It was the gutter installers!  For the next 3 hours in addition to 4 men carrying items into the house, we had two more with their ladders running around the house.  The gutter machine is really great!  They start with a roll of pre-painted aluminum feeding into the back end of a large machine in their truck, and finished gutter rolls out the other end, in any length they want!  They did one length almost 50 feet long for the edge of the RV garage.  Wouldn't that be fun to bring home from Home Depot!  They finished their job and left, without interfering appreciably with the movers.  My main regret is that I was tied up with the movers and could not really follow what they were doing.

Finally, around 3 PM we had all our things and the truck pulled away.  The most difficult items for them had been my lathe and milling machine.  It took some effort, but all went well.  We now have all our furniture and 260 boxes stacked all around the house, garage, and shop!  It appears that all the items survived the time in storage and the trip here just fine.  I have not found any damage yet.

We decided to sleep in the motorhome one more night.  We will locate the sheets and blankets tomorrow.  Tonight, I re-assembled the dining room table, a coffee table, 3 floor lamps, and finished tightening the bolts on Betty's desk.  I then went to the shop and did a little re-arrangement and assembled one of my workbenches.

Tomorrow we will start sorting and opening the boxes and try to make some sense of one room at a time.

This will be my last "episode" of our trials and tribulations I have been writing primarily for our family, starting with the preparation of our Escondido house for sale, and continuing on through all the moving and building processes.  All these reports are on-line at:

Both the reports and accompanying photographs are posted here.  I have included a section of the pictures from today.

Our new information is:

(Removed for online security)

We are keeping our P.O. box for the time-being, but are changing all our addresses to the house.

We are looking forward to seeing as many of you as can arrange a trip to Prescott! (But not all at once, Please!)  We have a 50 foot level driveway for RV's with full hookups, and you are welcome to use it!  You are also welcome even without an RV!

We hope to see you soon,

Dick and Betty

Our moving van.  There were 3 loads on this truck.  The first was delivered to Phoenix yesterday, the last will be taken into New Mexico next..

Betty's room is the worst for a clutter of stacked boxes!

The garage has the most boxes, but in the large area, it is not quite so cluttered.
